The Great Adventure

Welcome!

This is my first entry (of hopefully several) recording my adventures in Newfoundland.

My escapade began on December 11th in Whitby, Ontario with my faithful travel companions, Bronwen (life partner) and Shiva (the cutest little grey cat). We left at approximately 7:00 am. Twelve hours, three missed turns, and several white-knuckle moments later, we arrived at the Comfort Inn in Edmunston, New Brunswick. Very tired and a little out of it, we order pizza to our hotel room where we sat and ate while watching Christmas movies.

The next day we were off again around 7:30 am hoping to make the 11:45 pm ferry in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. We pulled into the ferry compound a little after 6:00 pm. What we did not know was that once you are in the compound, you cannot escape in your car. You have to park your car in a line-up and then venture out on foot. With six hours to kill, I ran out and got coffee and some Chinese food, while Bronwen entertained the cat. At around 10:30 pm, we were able to board the ferry. Shiva guarded the car while Bronwen and I attempted to sleep in some chairs in the ferry's theatre room.

After a wavy trip, we arrived in Newfoundland at 5:45 am. Despite not sleeping well at all, we continued our travels down the Trans-Canada Highway. The scenery was phenomenal! The roads of Newfoundland are extremely windy, with very large, imposing hills on either side. An extremely tall fence parallel the highway to prevent moose from running onto the road. However, a sign along the way informed us that 12 fatal accidents had occurred that year due to moose.

We were not quite able to get to St. John's, so we stopped in Gander, Newfoundland at the Comfort Inn. There we met a very nice hotel manager named Roger who really liked Shiva. His daughter and him were attempting to rescue a cat that had been abandoned by the highway. However, she was proving to be difficult to catch. We left the hotel, early the next morning and got on the road again. Finally, after many. many hours of driving and Egg McMuffins, we arrived in St. Johns at 1:30 pm on December 14th. Our landlord met with us right away and we were handed the keys. The house is two stories with the kitchen, two bedrooms, and bathroom on the second floor. On first floor is a hallway and a third bedroom/living space

Success! Home sweet home.
